What does it mean?

Monk Strap

Distinctive in appearance with its buckle design, the Monk shoe construction boasts similar detailing to that of the Derby shoe with its open quarter, whole cut tongue and vamp. The Monk shoe is a footwear design with no lacing, traditionally fastened with a single or double buckle. Considered a formal addition to your work wear, the Monk shoe strides between the smart appeal of an Oxford and the relaxed look of a Derby.

The Monk shoe is said to have been developed by 15th Century Alpine Monks and worn in monasteries throughout Europe. The Monk shoe rose in popularity during the 1920’s where it quickly became a formal alternative to the Oxford shoe in the post-war era.
