What does it mean?

Derby

Striking the balance between smart and casual, the Derby shoe offers a more relaxed footwear option.

Differing from the Oxford shoe, the Derby is constructed with an open-lace system that gives further freedom of movement, the quarters are stitched on the upper of the shoe, then the tongue is cut as part of the vamp.

Although the true origin of the Derby shoe is unclear; some believe Prussian Officer, Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher is responsible for creating Derby fronted boots for his troops in the Napoleonic Wars. The Derby shoe rose to fashion in the 1850’s, popular amongst gentlemen with pastimes of hunting and has since grown to become a recognised silhouette for smart casual footwear collections through town and into the city.
