The Goodyear Welt
from only £99
Goodyear Welted is a traditional shoe construction method that dates back more than 200 years.
Widely considered to be the best method of shoe construction, the name itself comes from Charles Goodyear Jr. the inventor of the machinery used for the process. The result is a premium quality shoe that is more comfortable, durable and when taken care of correctly, will last a lifetime.
Made to last, the sewing method ensures strength and durability.
As you wear the shoes, the cork bed will mold to your foot for a custom fit.
Easy to repair
Exposed stitching means the sole and heel can be easily replaced.
What is the Welt?
Goodyear Welted is a method of shoe construction that begins by sewing a strip of leather (known as the 'welt') around the bottom of the upper and insole. The welt is then folded out to form a point of attachment to the outer sole.
The welt forms a cavity which is then filled with a cork material. The final part of the shoe is the sole, which is attached to the welt of the shoe.
But it's the final stitch, which holds the sole in place, that we can cut through; this enables complete removal of the sole without causing damage to the upper. This gives you premium quality shoes that are more comfortable, more durable, and when taken care of correctly, will last you a lifetime.
The name itself comes from Charles Goodyear Jr., the inventor of the machinery used for the process. Although time consuming and a very skilled process, it is widely considered to be the best method of shoe construction and has largely stayed the same since its development just under 200 years ago.
